Heard of Broken relationships? How about finding a Museum dedicated to them?!

The Young & Vibrant city of Zagreb (CROATIA)

If you want to lift your spirits sky-high, you have to come to Croatia.

This is the one-liner for Croatia's tourism, after they reached the finals and won our hearts in the FIFA World Cup held this year in Russia

Let me rewind back a few months, when we actually started thinking of sneaking in a  girls' trip plan, without the boys and the kids in our lives. We did not have a clue whether to be happy or nervous about it. However, we mustered up some courage and convinced our heart to go out there and explore.

The first and foremost task was to identify a place that we have not been to. Cut off lovely towns in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Morocco and finalized on Dubrovnik, a coastal town in Croatia.
Like all times, VFS Dubai helped to arrange a visa to Croatia through a smooth process. But this is the longest I have waited for a Schengen visa. This was because the visa application is sent to the Croatia embassy in Qatar.

We were able to squeeze in 5 precious days for the trip, which made us add the capital city of Zagreb to our itinerary. Flew to Zagreb first and we made sure our flights landed with a less than one hour gap. Took a taxi to the apartment and caught the owner just in the nick of time to check-in. Our work-out began right there, when we had to climb a flight of stairs carrying large suitcases.

The first venue in Zagreb that destiny led us to was the Museum of broken relationships (we were quite amused with the name). It was a small trek uphill and we saw a "just-married" couple doing a wedding photo shoot on the way. It was surprising to see how low-key the celebration was and how modestly dressed they were. They were happy to let us click a picture :)

This was the first time I bought a bunch of freshly plucked strawberries from one of the many stalls  and not from a supermarket. Figs make for a popular fruit as well. We met a girl from New Zealand who introduced herself and was glad to have bumped into us. She was a solo traveler exploring Zagreb and wanted to know a lot about us. After conversing for 10 minutes, she was convinced that we should join her in the Christian group she was participating in. We were proud of being smart enough to not reveal too much about ourselves and our whereabouts. I believe our family also should be super proud of us! :-)

Enjoyed exploring most of the city by foot. The lovely weather added to the charm of walking. Also got lucky to get wet in the rain. Cafes with free Wi-fi were in abundance and we never had a "No-Instagram" moment.  Some friends advised us not to leave Zagreb without buying a few Kiki candies for the kids back home.

Nikola Tesla's importance was felt in the city, as it was his birthplace. Luck led us to a a fancy pub named Tesla bar, with a menu based on Nikola Tesla. I was happy to discover my bestie's favorite drink, the Moscow  mule.

The Croatian football jersey was one of the best souvenirs I bought for the hubby and he enjoyed cheering for the team in the FIFA world cup this year. Bought a donkey soft-toy, which sings the Croatia National anthem when squeezed, as a gift for the little one. Kuna is the accepted currency of Croatia (1$= 6.35 Kunas).

We were 2 girls who visited the place without any bodyguards and we can proudly vouch for Zagreb to be one of the safest and friendliest cities in the world.

CROATIA, we love how green you are.
