Up in the air with Dubai's own Flydubai.
Fly smart. Save more.
It is a Friday and surprisingly not too crowded in the flight. Most of the so-called premium seats with extra leg room (for which they charge 100dhs extra) were unoccupied. So here was my chance to go and take a nap, whenever I wanted, during the 6 hour flight. I just had to be alert and not go into deep sleep, as these seats were close to the emergency exit door.
Few of the surprises were:
Free food was served in this low-cost flight.
You could watch movies for 35dhs.
You could watch TV shows, listen to audio and also play games for 15dhs.
You could easily spend an hour or two reading about the various destinations that Flydubai flies to and get an idea of what to do and see there.

You would not expect well dressed and pleasing crew members, with such a cost-saving experience. And that's precisely what you get too.
The temperature inside got too warm for comfort at times. That’s when we noticed that we were overdressed with thick woolen jackets! (Well, it was ideal for the temperature we were going to be in, after we land in Europe)
Business class- Well, that's another story. I am curious to know why anyone would pay more than double the price to fly business in this flight. The only thing that separates the economy from business is a piece of rope. Maybe there is more to it than meets the eye.
Our stroller was taken away from us, just before boarding the flight. We expected it to come with the luggage at the destination. However we couldn't find it. We asked one of the security guards at Bratislava airport. I somehow managed to make him understand what a baby stroller is using sign language. He directed us to check in the over-size baggage counter and Tada! there it was. But an important realization hit me. My good hold on the English language is not going to help me sail through our holiday in Europe and boy, was I right!
Things that we liked:
Flight was on time.
E-gate immigration in Dubai Terminal 2- no queues
They accommodated our special request of delivering our luggage at Bratislava, though our final destination was Vienna. We had friends picking us up from Bratislava, so that was a convenient option.

What we did not like:
Temperature inside the flight got too warm at times.
Online check-in did not work
Food was not to our taste for the inbound flight.
Cabin crew was not the most presentable compared to those in other flights.
Movie list was not too vast.
No special meals/snacks/goodies for the kids.

Return flight experience was way better. Since Bratislava was a small airport, the check-in and immigration formalities did not take long. The inside of the flight felt bigger and more comfortable than our inbound flight. The flight was full this time around and the food served was fresh and tasty. Not sure why, but the passengers were so happy that they clapped when the flight landed.
Though the inbound flight did not meet high expectations, the outbound flight made up for it.
For ambitious travelers like me, I would say Flydubai is a blessing indeed. It helps us see the world without worrying too much about emptying our pockets.
Sneak peek into our snack box below (complimentary with the meal).
P.S. It's your turn to talk now. Why do you think I used the colors I used to write this blog post? The first one to answer would get a compliment from me :-)
