Malaysia and the famous Petronas Twin towers.

Who said there is no power cut in Malaysia???!

These were my exact words when we reached the Petronas Twin towers in Kuala Lumpur. You may wonder why? Read on.

Spending a month in Singapore and having explored all the popular spots in the country, we were ready to explore a new place. We had a long weekend and the first choice was Bali, Indonesia. However, the only news in TV during the time, were that of the disaster that occurred in Japan and the neighboring countries in the form of a Tsunami. It was not a tiny disaster and was predicted to spread to Korea, China and Indonesia. This forced us to change our destination to a safer/closer place and we finalized upon Malaysia. It was a 1 hour journey by air and spending a weekend there would give us the benefit of not taking leave from work :)

We checked into our hotel on Saturday morning at 6 am. Our priority task in the list were to see the famous Twin towers. So we
freshened up, had breakfast and headed off to the Petronas towers. It used to be one of the tallest towers in the world and though we have been to the current tallest tower (Burj Khalifa) in Dubai, we were excited to see how it feels from the top of Malaysia. We were warned of long queues in order to get tickets for the same day and boy, were we surprised! The queues were so long that we ended up waiting for 2 hours!

It was a good ride to the 41st floor. The Petronas has a double-decker sky bridge,
which is 170 metres above the ground, at levels 41 and 42  and it was the world's tallest sky bridge (I can proudly say that we have a double-decker bridge in India as well, which is in my office -EMC Corporation, Bangalore :-))We spend sometime there with other tourists and took some photos (selfies were not popular then- so NO selfies). Later, we spent the afternoon exploring the Petrosains science museum in the Petronas itself. There was so much to do and see for both adults and kids. It was a good treat to our brains.

Out hotel , PARKROYAL, was located in the heart of the city and was next to a happening street, Bukit Bintang, which had loads of places to eat and shop. We had a fun time exploring this street and it had a good night-life. The next day, we went to the Times Square shopping mall and it turned out to be my most favorite place in KL. So many stores with great clothes, shoes, bags, you name it and all at reasonable prices! I will advise every girl to check out this mall if they plan to visit it sometime.

Since we only had one more day, we decided to spend the next night to see the Petrona twin towers in its brightest form. We had heard so many stories about how beautiful it was to see the towers in the night, all lit up from top to bottom, and we were looking forward to see the sight. We took a bus from the hotel to a stop near the twin towers and decided to walk. When we were getting closer, we sensed something was not right. We could not see even a glimpse of the brightly lit towers and it was only the street lights that showed us the way. We reached the towers and found that there was no light in it. This is when i asked "Who said there is no power cut in Malaysia???" to N.

We did not see many people around and did not bother to ask what was wrong. We returned to the hotel disappointed and asked the receptionist why everyone brags about how the twin towers look in the night and narrated our experience. That's when she said "Sir, we are celebrating earth day in Malaysia and you went during the earth hour, when we switch off all the lights for 1 hour".

Sometimes, it is just not enough to keep your eyes open, it is necessary to keep your ears open as well :)
