Rija and Suru residence, Koramangala- 2009

The probability of my uncle sending me a sms is very rare. So the sms came as a surprise, one fine day, when I was working late in office and was frustrated. He wanted to let me know that there is a guest at his home and the guest was longing to meet me. I begged him to tell me who it was, but he did not budge. I requested him to give me a clue and found that it was a special person. When I asked where the person was from, he replied ‘Persia’. Many things were going through my head. I even wondered if it were my parents giving me a surprise visit, which was far too much to hope for. I gave up and thought that it might be one of my relatives who must have travelled down from the Middle East. The next day was my off and I decided to go visit this special person. I called my aunt to let her know (Uncle was away at work). The conversation went like this:

Me : Hi Aunty, I am coming over at 11 am.

Aunt: Oh yeah, I was expecting your call. Uncle had told me that you would be here to meet the guest.

Me : Aunty, at least tell me if it’s a young or old person- I want to decide what to wear based on that.

Aunt: Don’t give it so much thought. Wear whatever you like, just wear something!

Me : Ok, I am going to come in jeans and a shirt. I am warning you now itself.

Aunt: That’s alright; I don’t think he will mind.

I caught an auto to her place. I entered the house and looked around for a sign of the guest, but in vain. Aunt told me that she made him go upstairs (uncle’s friend’s home which is empty, as they live elsewhere), because uncle was not there and she did not want to be alone at home with him. I was stunned and concluded that it was a man who was a stranger to her and decided that I should be cautious too. We both went up and she unlocked the door. I was wondering why my aunt had locked the person up (was she so damn unsure about him!). Aunt told me that he would be in the kitchen. In the kitchen, she took me towards the window and asked me to look out into the balcony. That’s when I realized how stupid I was to assume things. In the balcony was a huge Persian cat, grey in colour, wagging its bushy tail and staring at us with its huge green eyes. Aunt broke into laughter seeing my plight. But then, my heart melted seeing the beautiful creation of god. I wanted to touch it, yet was afraid to. Later, I learnt that the cat had stumbled into the porch and was lying at the doorstep the previous evening. I must say, he really looked like he was a pet from a royal family and was tamed and looked after well by its owners. Poor thing.
